Geeks Rising Podcast Livestream

Geeks Rising is launching it’s very own “flagship” podcast which is titled…Geeks Rising! What a surprise! In this show, myself and other members of the Geeks Rising podcast network will get together and discuss what we’ve been working on, and what we’ve learned in regards to content creation. I don’t view this as another interview show, but rather as us broadcasting our chat to allow you to learn from our mistakes and successes.

The first livestream is going to be on 4/27/19 at 5:00PM PST / 8:00PM EST, and you can join the live stream at www.geeksrising.live

I am extremely excited about this new podcast, and I hope you can make it to the livestream. If you’re not able to, the show will be available in all Podcatchers.

Podcaster's Roundtable

I was recently on the Podcasters’ Roundtable with Ray Ortega and Dave Jackson to discuss creator Burnout.

In this episode we discussed what creator burn out is, what leads to feeling burned out, what happens when you are burned out and how to avoid burning out.

I had a great time chatting with both Ray & Dave, and I think the discussion could be very helpful if you’re a podcaster or youtube creator. I was also honored to hear that Dave Jackson used clips from the roundtable on an episode of The School of Podcasting.

Creator On The Rise, What It Meant?

20th of October 2017, Youtube was kind enough to select me as Creator on the rise. This feature is a way for youtube to feature smaller creators and expose them to a larger and more general audience.

I opened my e-mail in the morning and saw the e-mail to the right. I then had to go to the youtube trending tab to verify that it wasn’t a prank. It was not. I was featured on the trending tab on youtube and I was right next to a pewdiepie video.

The important thing about this is how it affected my channel. I monitored the growth of my channel for weeks following this feature and I was expecting the result to be positive but ultimately ended up being somewhat negative.

Initially I saw a large spike in my subscribers which was great, and gave me a huge endorphin rush. I also saw a big influx of views on the 20th of October, but over the following weeks I started to see large jumps in subscribers in the morning and a large drop in subs in the evening. Somehow being featured on the trending tab of youtube had placed me on some kind of spam list where fake accounts would subscribe to in order to seem legitimate, and youtube was purging all of these accounts quickly.

Not only was there this influx of subscribers followed by purges, but it led to my videos performing poorly over the next few weeks as well. The justification I have for this is the fact that there was an influx of people subscribing to the channel who are “normies” and are not into the esoteric or the subtle differences between two microphones. This means that while I was continuing to produce the content that I normally make, the majority of new subs were not interested in them. Therefore, when they are shown my video by the algorithm, they do not click on it. This tells the algorithm it’s a bad video and it stops recommending it to other people.

This led to a few months of very difficult going on the channel, and it took a lot of hard work to pull out of the downward spiral. Eventually I did and we’re now on the way up. Just wanted to document that.

10,000 Subscribers

2016_08_01.jpg

On 1 AUGUST 2016, I hit 10,000 subscribers. It’s frequently said that the first 1,000 subs are the most difficult, and that’s very true. The first thousand took 7 months. It took an additional 5 months to hit 5,000 subs, and then it took 4 months to hit 10,000 subscribers. This was over 1 year of work on the channel but unfortunately I do not know how many videos or views my channel had at this time.

5,000 Subscribers

24 APR 2016 is the date I hit 5,000 subscribers. This screen shat is quite a bit more interesting than the last milestone because this also includes the number of videos uploaded and the total number of channel video views.

This means that it took me over 100 videos to hit 5,000 subscribers. I understand that there are other creators who spent 100 videos to get 90 subs or 1,000 subscribers, but this is how long it took me to hit 5,000 subscribers and 600k views. Just under a year of regular review videos and 100+ videos.
