Randy Newman's Watch

The watch that I spotted on Randy Newman’s wrist is the IWC Schaffhausen Mark XVII.

If you don’t know who Randy Newman is, he is one of the greatest living American singer/songwriters. He is most well known for either “You’ve Got a Friend In Me” or “Short People”, both of which are great songs. The thing that is most impressive about Randy is his ability to switch between incredibly heartfelt songs and comedic gold. Do yourself a favor and go listen to the Randy Newman discography.

The watch was spotted in the NPR Tiny Desk performance and there was one shot that I “enhanced” to get a better look. The three letters at 12 with the triangle make it clear that it’s IWC Shaffhausen. Looking at the 3 you don’t see a white date wheel which is another indicator. At this point I was between the Mark XVII or XVIII. Then looking at the 9:00, there is no numeral there which you would find on the Mark XVIII. This watch lacks the Arabic 9, and therefore I believe this watch to be the Mark XVII.
